Scot doing some research about E. J. Dailey at the Lisbon Railroad Museum
Scot H. Dahms grew up trapping, hunting and fishing the farmlands of Iowa and has a great love of the outdoors. Once he finished High School, he studied what he loved by attending Iowa State University at Ames, Iowa and graduating with a Bachelors Degree in Fisheries and Wildlife Biology. He would later complete a Masters of Science in Earth Science at Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas.
He had the opportunity to live in different areas of the country including Texas, Montana and Indiana, finally arriving in Ohio. He continued with his love of trapping and attended trapper conventions, antique malls and other gatherings to find antique traps and trapping paraphernalia. Above all other types of traps, Scot fell in love with the Triumph Trap Company and its storied past. He focused on not only collecting material about its existence but also researching its past.
During his research, he has visited the still standing Triumph Trap Company Factory in Oneida, New York; the Adirondack Mountains in New York where EJ Dailey and Dick Wood spent time in a cabin by Duck Hole near Cold River; the still standing house of Walter A. Gibbs in Maryland; Hiltons, Virginia where Dick Wood grew up near the Holston River; Flackville, New York where EJ Dailey’s house and Trap Supply Shop were still standing at that time (they have both been torn down). He continues his travels to research little known facts about the company and those involved in its past.
He has a general love of trapping history and has written numerous articles about little known facts involving trappers and trap manufacturing. His articles have been in the TRAPS magazine, Fur Fish Game, The Trapper and Predator Caller, Trappers World, The Fur Taker, Hunting and Fishing Collectibles, Journal of Antiques and Collectibles, and the Second Edition of The Trap Collectors Guide.
Annually, Scot attends conventions of the North American Trap Collectors Association, Pennsylvania Trappers Association, New York State Trappers Association, Fur Takers of America, National Trappers Association and National Outdoor Show of Dorchester County, Maryland. If you want to visit with him at a convention, look for his booth under Adirondack Dick Enterprises.

The Fur Taker magazine
"As the trapping industry continues to evolve in the face of urbanization and the animal rights movement, it is wise to look back at the pioneers of our industry. History is important because it helps us appreciate our ideological ancestors as well as learn from their stories, experiences, advice and failures. Mr. Dahms has helped us to do that by compiling information about the life of a trapper who truly did it all, named EJ Dailey." READ MORE
Yes, Mr. Dahms has written yet another fine book about trappers of the past. In this case, the well known trapper E. J. Dailey. Now I think I'm like most modern trappers of today. I grew up reading stories of Mr. Dailey and other fur trappers of that time. I dreamed of what it would be like to trap for a living. READ MORE

Trapper's World
I have read a lot of trapping, hunting and outdoor books before but never one so thoroughly researched about one man. Author Scot Damns has created a very detailed book about one Richard K. Wood, better known as Dick Wood. I remember first reading of Mr. Wood through an article originally written about well known New York trapper E. J. Dailey. READ MORE
Adirondack Dick was an outdoorsman of incredible talents and endurance who successfully turned his love of the outdoors into a livlihood. Though born to a Methodist preacher, he wasn't taken to the confinements of buildings or the stress of studying. He wanted to be outdoors. READ MORE
